It’s not a dilemma

How often do you read or hear words which suggest that a dilemma is a choice between two things.

The fact is, a dilemma is a choice between two things but those two things need to be both negative things.  The choice between ice cream and cake for dessert is not a dilemma.

The choice between eating ice cream for dessert and not having dessert is not a dilemma.

A dilemma is the choice between two negative outcomes.  For example, it is a choice between being hanged or strangled, being shot or stabbed, or, in the case of a very famous movie the choice as to which child to give away.

The misuse of the word dilemma is bullshit.

That’s what I say, what say you?
